Lux Unfiltered

It does not matter what time of the year it is. The UV rays will damage your skin if it is hot or cold outside. Although, the one downside to applying facial sunscreen is that it always tends to leave a white cast, making it difficult to continue your routine. There are plenty of non-toxic sunscreens that can do the trick, but sometimes a tinted sunscreen is the perfect solution. Aside from being a great makeup base, tinted sunscreen keeps your routine light and simple, which is something we all need from time to time.

What Causes a White Cast?

Although the white cast is not ideal, and can be annoying to work with, it is not a bad thing at all! The zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide found in most sunscreens are the two primary ingredients that leave the white residue, according to Supergoop. These are often referred to as mineral sunscreens. In some cases this problem can be solved by rubbing in the sunscreen into the skin to make sure all of it is absorbed. On darker skin tones this does not always work, which is why tinted sunscreens and water based sunscreen are go to options. Derm Skincare states that chemical sunscreens filter the harsh UV rays instead of reflecting them, which is why chemical based sunscreens absorb into the skin easier.
